Allan C. Carlson is a historian and author of fifteen books on family questions, including several specifically on family life and farming. These include the award-winning The Natural Family Where It Belongs: New Agrarian Essays and Land and Liberty: The Best Essays of FREE AMERICA. He and wife Betsy engage in "grandfarming" on Swallow Farm in Winnebago County, Illinois.
